As appointed yesterday, today at 10 AM I went to the bank. With a good English communication between me and the bank employee the paper work took about 30 minutes. After all of this she opened a bank account that was active from that minute, created a application for a Debit Card and also an application for Internet Banking. Most of this things will be sent by mail to my home address. So I should receive during this week:

1. My PIN code

2. My Debit Card

3. My TAN list (for online access)

Strange is the fact that they don't have any kind of Digital Password system. For example when I will login onto the web page, I will have to use a number from a list that is printed on paper. All that I hope is that I will receive all my things.

Good things about this bank. There is no fee for operations on account from the internet. There is only a 2.3 Euro monthly fee if your account balance is below 1500 Euro. There is no fee when getting money from the ATM.

Waiting for the things...

Today I wanted to open a new bank account. I chose my bank Stadtsparkasse and went to their main office. After some basic sign language and English/German basics they told me that I have to go to my local branch (where I will have my apartment). So I went there. Here, the person that I talked to knew more English than the other ones. She told me that for this kind of operation (opening a new account) I will need an appointment, so she programmed me for tomorrow at 10 AM. My luck that tomorrow I will be sleeping in my new rented apartment that is very close to the office. Will see how it will go tomorrow.

Using Vodafone Internet in Germany PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday I had a very interesting experience with vodafone. I bought a USB stick and a SIM for that USB stick to use it as a mobile internet for my laptop. What I got was a USB stick a usual prepaid card, and 2 credit recharge codes that summed 40 Euro. After I have tried almost all known solutions by me, I have figured it out. What you have to do is as follows.

1. Put your SIM card into a phone.

2. Use *100# to go into the vodafone prepaid menu and add credit to your SIM card using the recharge codes bought.

3. Put the SIM into the USB stick, and plug it into your laptop.

4. Install Vodafone software.

5. When connecting use Web Session connection.

6. After you have connected a browser will open and will ask you how much internet you want (5 minutes, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month).

7. Here you will have also the options on how you will pay (Use credit from the CallYa Credit) - is the credit we recharged earlier.

8. Press next, and your internet will start working.

Also a thing that I also found out the hard way, is that for the Iphone (not bought from Germany) to have a internet connection using this prepaid card you have to Add into the Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network and set the APN to all entries there to web.vodafone.de. And it should work (It worked for me).

Now I am a happy fellow that has internet connection to all his devices :)

Residence registration PDF Print E-mail

Today I have registered my residence and also got my Tax Card. This is done at Kreisverwaltungsreferat. To register you will need a form name ANMELDUNG bei der Meldebehörde (that can be found on the internet site) and your passport. If you have already the form filled it will take 10 minutes. I recommend to go there early in the morning around 8 o'clock, because there will be fewer people, than during the day. With some basic English skill you will get along with the person that will register you.

Also if you are also there and is your first time ask also for Lohnsteuerkarte for the current year. This is your tax card. You will need this if you are going to work in Munchen / Germany. The person involved in this registration was very nice, and moved very fast.

I am really proud of German offices until now.

First day in Munich PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday, was my first day in Munich as a future resident. In the morning I have arrived by airplane from Romania. From the airport to the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) I took the S8 train. The trip cost me almost 10 Euro. The hotel where I am currently staying is 2 minutes away from the station. The price on the room was quite cheep but when I arrived around 12 o'clock the room was not ready. So I had to wait for almost 1 hour. After finally my room was ready, I had to carry my 35 kg of luggage at the 4th floor on the stairs because the elevator was not working. Very good first impression :).

After I settled in, I went for my lunch. Looked around and found a pizza place right near the central station. The food was bad, and the price was high. NOTE TO SELF: Never buy food near important places / zones of the city. The prices are ridiculous. I realized later that the price was double than anywhere in the city.

After my (good) meal, I went to a near by Vodafone store to buy a SIM card for my Iphone and a USB stick for internet connection for my laptop. It was just my bad / good luck that the person there knew very little English and I knew very little German. It took us I while to get along but we managed it. So I bought myself a Phone Prepaid SIM card for 20 Euro, on which she activated me the Mobile Internet option for one month for my phone. This option took 15 Euro from my credit. The rest is there to be used. Regarding my USB stick it cost me 10 Euro the device, and 40 Euro additional credit so I can activate my Monthly session (this is another topic).

Back at the hotel with my new toys, I replaced my old SIM card and called at the new office to make a RECON visit. To get there I took the subway. It cost me around 6 Euro because I thought that my future work place is farther and bought a ticket for 3 zones instead of 2. NOTE TO SELF: study the map first by ticket after.

The future office is a very very nice place, with futuristic approach, open minded and Apple Hardware :). I met the colleagues and stayed for a cafe. On my way back to the hotel I walked to the Ostbahnhof (East station) from where I took the subway. This time it cost me around 3.5 Euro because I knew I had to get only two zones.

In the evening I went and bought from the Hauptbahnhof an IsarCard. It is something like a one ticket for a whole month for any number of zones you want, for all the transports. Unfortunately is only available for 1 month (1st of that month and the last day of that month). Because I bought for September, tomorrow I will have to buy a 3 Tag Inerraum ticket (something similar but only for 3 days).

My dinner was a good old Mac Hamburger in the city center.
